TPR Login: Do Drivers Need a Registry Account?
Drivers don't log in to tpr.fmcsa.dot.gov. Who the TPR login is for, what drivers use instead, and how to fix common registry access problems.
· · 4 min read
Many drivers search for the "TPR login" after their training school or state tells them their ELDT record has to be in the registry. They reach tpr.fmcsa.dot.gov, see a login button, and assume they need an account to get their certificate or finish their paperwork.
They don't. The Training Provider Registry has no driver accounts. This guide explains who the login is for, what drivers use instead, and how to get past the problems people run into on the registry site.
Who the TPR login is for
The login is for training providers: schools, carriers, colleges and online companies that deliver entry-level driver training. FMCSA's instructions put it plainly: "Only training providers register in the Training Provider Registry."
Providers sign in through Login.gov, the federal government's shared sign-in service, with an email address and password. Once in, a provider can:
- register the company and each training location,
- keep its listing and training types current, and
- submit a completion record for each driver by midnight of the second business day after the driver finishes.
That last job is the one that matters to you. Your record gets into the registry because your provider logs in and submits it (or sends it through FMCSA's web service). You never have to.
What drivers use instead
Drivers use the Check Your Record page, reached from Check my driver record on the registry home page or directly at tpr.fmcsa.dot.gov/Check. There is no username or password. You enter:
- your license or permit number,
- the state that issued it,
- your date of birth, and
- your first and last name,
all exactly as they appear on your license, CLP or CDL. The result shows the training records your providers have submitted. Our step-by-step guide to checking your ELDT record covers each field and what to do if nothing comes up.
Drivers also cannot type in or change their own training results. FMCSA designed it that way so nobody can report training they did not complete. If a record is missing or wrong, the fix always goes through the provider.
Common problems and fixes
"I can't find where to create a driver account." There isn't one. Use the Check Your Record page.
"My school says I need to log in to finish my ELDT." Usually this is a mix-up about the certificate. The registry does not issue certificates to drivers. The record your provider submits is the official proof, and any certificate you get comes from the provider. Ask the school what exactly they need; most often it is your license or permit number, so they can submit the record.
"The site says 403 Forbidden." The registry is a U.S. government site, and connections from outside the United States or through some VPNs can be blocked. Try a regular U.S. connection, such as your phone's mobile data.
"The page shows an error or will not submit." Try another browser, or wait and try again later. If it keeps failing, contact the TPR technical support team using the contact form on the site or by phone at 877-688-2984 (option 8).
"I found my record, but a detail is wrong." You cannot edit it. Contact the provider that submitted it, give them the correct details from your license, and ask them to correct the record.
"I'm a school and can't get into the provider portal." Provider access runs through Login.gov, so start with Login.gov's own account recovery if the password or two-step verification is the problem. For registry questions, such as a location under review or submitting records, use the TPR contact form and pick the matching subject.
Beware of look-alike sites
FMCSA warns providers about phishing emails that imitate the registry, and the same applies to drivers. The only official registry is at tpr.fmcsa.dot.gov. FMCSA does not charge drivers to check a record, and it never emails asking for payment or personal information. If a site asks you to pay to "activate," "download" or "verify" your ELDT record, close it.
Where your provider fits in
The whole system depends on the provider submitting accurate data on time. Before you enroll anywhere, confirm the provider is listed on the registry for the training type you need; our guide on whether online ELDT is legit shows how.
Lowest Cost ELDT submits theory records to the registry automatically, usually within minutes of passing your final module, as long as your license or permit number is in your profile. Every course is $20; our guide to ELDT training cost in 2026 shows how that compares with other online theory courses.
