Is Your ELDT Provider Still on the FMCSA Registry?

How to check that your ELDT provider is still listed on the FMCSA Training Provider Registry, what a removal means for your training, and what to do next.

· · 4 min read

Your ELDT training only counts if the provider that trained you is listed on FMCSA's Training Provider Registry (TPR) and reports your completion there. Your state looks up that record before your CDL skills test, or before the hazmat knowledge test.

In 2025 and 2026 FMCSA removed thousands of training locations from the registry. When we checked the registry's public lists on September 29, 2026, 9,963 locations were on the removed list and 1,011 were under review. So it is worth a two-minute check before you pay for a course, and again if your provider suddenly says it cannot send your record.

Check that a provider is listed

Go to tpr.fmcsa.dot.gov and choose Find a training provider. The search page lets you filter by:

  • Training type: In-Person, Online, or Traveling Provider.
  • Location: your city or ZIP code, or "My Location".
  • Provider name.

For an online theory course, pick Online and type the provider's name. The result shows the provider name and its training location. A company's website saying "FMCSA-registered" is its own claim; the registry search is the check that counts.

Check the removed and under-review lists

The registry also publishes two public lists, linked from its home page:

Use the "Search locations" box on either page and type the provider's name. A provider can have more than one location or registration, so look at every match, not just the first one.

What the removal types mean

The registry labels each removal. The rules behind them are in 49 CFR 380.723:

  • Voluntary removal. The provider asked to be taken off the registry.
  • Involuntary removal. FMCSA first sends a notice of proposed removal with the reasons and the corrective actions needed. The provider has 30 days to respond, and FMCSA says providers generally get about 60 days to finish corrective actions. While that notice is open, the provider must tell its current and scheduled trainees about the proposed removal, and the registry shows that a notice was issued.
  • Emergency removal. In cases of fraud, criminal behavior, willful disregard of the rules, or when public health, interest or safety requires it, FMCSA can remove a provider immediately, without the notice period.

What a removal means for your training

The key rule is in 49 CFR 380.721: if FMCSA removes a provider, any training conducted after the removal date is invalid. Training that was finished and reported before the removal date is not affected by that rule.

There is one exception. In cases of fraud or other criminal behavior by a provider in which trainees knowingly took part, FMCSA can invalidate training retroactively.

What to do depends on where you are:

  1. You already finished and your record shows up. Check it at tpr.fmcsa.dot.gov/Check. If your completion is there, your state can see it. Our guide on how to check your ELDT record walks through the fields.
  2. You finished but nothing was reported. Providers must report by midnight of the second business day after you finish (how long TPR submission takes). If that has passed and the provider says it cannot submit, ask in writing when it will, and about a refund if you want one.
  3. You are still in the course, or have not started. If the provider has been removed, training it gives after the removal date does not count. You would need to complete the course with a provider that is listed on the registry.

Before you pay for any online ELDT course

  • Search the provider on the registry, then search the removed and under-review lists.
  • Make sure the course matches your license: Class A, Class B, the B-to-A upgrade and each endorsement are separate courses with separate records.
  • Ask how and when the provider reports to the registry. It must report by midnight of the second business day after you finish.
  • Doing behind-the-wheel training too? Run the same checks on the school. Our CDL school directory lists registered locations by state, taken from the registry.

Lowest Cost ELDT is listed on the registry as an online provider, and we report completions automatically, usually within minutes. You can search our name on the registry before you buy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does my ELDT training still count if my provider was removed from the registry?
Training the provider completed and reported before its removal date generally stays valid. FMCSA's rule says training conducted after the removal date is invalid (49 CFR 380.721). The exception is fraud: if a driver knowingly took part, FMCSA can invalidate earlier training too. Check your record on tpr.fmcsa.dot.gov/Check to see what was reported.
Where can I see which training providers were removed?
The registry publishes two public lists: removed locations at tpr.fmcsa.dot.gov/Location/Removed and locations under review at tpr.fmcsa.dot.gov/Location/InReview. Each entry shows the location name, the provider, the location, and for removals the date and type of removal.
Why does FMCSA remove training providers from the registry?
49 CFR 380.723 sets three paths. A provider can ask to be removed (voluntary removal). FMCSA can remove a provider that no longer meets the Part 380 requirements after a notice of proposed removal that lists the reasons and the corrective actions, with 30 days to respond (involuntary removal). And in cases of fraud, criminal behavior, willful disregard of the rules, or when public health, interest or safety requires it, FMCSA can remove a provider immediately (emergency removal).
Can I keep training with a provider that has a notice of proposed removal?
Until the removal date, yes: the provider stays on the registry and must tell its current and scheduled trainees about the proposed removal (49 CFR 380.723). Once FMCSA removes it, training conducted after the removal date is invalid under 49 CFR 380.721, so finish and get your record reported before that date, or move to a provider that is listed.
Can an employer or fleet check a driver's ELDT record?
The Check Your Record page at tpr.fmcsa.dot.gov/Check is public and asks for the driver's license or permit number, issuing state, date of birth and name, so an employer with those details and the driver's consent can look up the same record the state sees. States query the registry directly before scheduling a skills test or a hazmat knowledge test.
Is Lowest Cost ELDT listed on the registry?
Yes. On tpr.fmcsa.dot.gov choose Find a training provider, set the training type to Online and search for Lowest Cost ELDT (the course is operated by Novio ELD LLC). Then search the same name on the removed and under-review lists; a provider that appears on neither list is in good standing on the day you check.
My provider cannot submit my record. What should I do?
First check your record at tpr.fmcsa.dot.gov/Check. If nothing was reported and the provider says it cannot submit, ask it in writing when it will, and about a refund if you want one. If it has been removed, training it gives after the removal date does not count, so you would need to take the course with a provider that is listed on the registry.
